about

Shrink the Giant was born in 2010, when front-woman Stefania Barr was only fifteen years old. They set up a back-room studio and wrote, recorded, and produced their first record without having yet stepped on stage as a band. Despite their youth, and lack of live experience, their 2012 self-titled album and live emergence was met with immense success. They won the X96 (Utah Alternative Rock Station) Battle of the Bands, and played with groups such as Imagine Dragons, Neon Trees, Grouplove, Awolnation, the Wombats, and the Used. The album garnered fans from around the world. The following summer they toured the California coast. In 2014, Shrink the Giant won Best Alternative Band at the Utah Music Awards, and kicked off the summer with another 27-show California tour. They released their second album "Faceless" on December 4th, 2014.

"Fast and Far" is the first single to be released from the album. The track has been lauded for its fun, alt-rock spunk, and the utter singability of the chorus hook. It's a feel-good track with youthful imagery and richly layered vocals.

The acoustic b-side version of the song is just as lively, in a more raw kind of way, showcasing more of a vocal duet between Stefania and her violinist/percussionist brother Sebastian Barr, with backup vocals from band member Marisa Wilde, who plays the upright bass on the track. Guitarist Aaron Hurt offers the riffing that carries the verse, while Stefania backs him up with rhythm guitar. Beats on the track are provided by drummer Jason Ash on a custom (homemade) cajon.

about

Shrink the Giant Utah

Like Bowie and Beck, Shrink the Giant's discography seems to suffer from a multiple personality disorder. They boast an infectious diversity of styles, with mood swings from playful to thoughtful, marked by outbursts of indie-pop mania and occasional, alternative, spacy seclusion. If Paramore adopted the child of Metric and Flaming Lips, it would probably be named "Shrink the Giant." ... more
